From humble beginnings to an East Bay culinary icon.
Dorothy Everett departed West Point, Alabama in 1957, bringing with her four children, her husband, and a deep knowledge of traditional southern cooking. Settling in Oakland, California, Dorothy worked tirelessly to support her growing family—which eventually expanded to nine children.
In 1973, armed with $700, unwavering faith, and help from her son-in-law (Jones), Dorothy opened the doors to the first Everett & Jones Barbeque at 92nd Avenue in East Oakland.

Word quickly spread across the Bay Area about E&J's tender oak-smoked ribs, juicy chicken, spicy sausage links, and Dorothy's handcrafted secret sauce—available in Mild, Medium, Hot, and the famous Super-Que heat level.
Today, the legacy continues through Dorothy's daughters and granddaughters, who operate E&J locations across Oakland and San Francisco. When you dine at Everett & Jones, you are experiencing over half a century of authentic African American soul food heritage.
